These videos will help ya’ out, the first link is for settin’ up a’ spinnin’ rig (rod and reel), 2nd be the rest of the series <);-3
Note: Gentleman is workin’ with a large saltwater rig but, it is basically the same with freshwater rods/reels… http://www.ehow.co.uk/video_5361692_set-up-fishing-pole.html
Take end of line and double it take the doubled line and make an overhand knot in it then repeat close by with another. Squeez line together and push thru hole in weight or hook and pass open loop over hook or weight and walla you have attached anything and reverse to remove it. You will never find an easier way or stronger knot.

Added: May want to check out other videos regarding fishin’ on site ~ it be youtube
Preferred knots (myself) be the Palomar and Clinch knots. Palomar probably be the best/easiest for the swivel (barrel or snap types)
Palomar:

Clinch (Improved):

Other fishin’ knots:

Note: The above are animated so learning them is a’ bit easier ~ also includes text for the right application (what their used for)
